Petroglyph Tour is mainly for hiking lovers. It covers the two most famous petroglyph sites, which have a history of at least 7,000 years. The tour also includes the most well-known touristic sites nearby those mountains.
We go between Kotayk and Gegharkunik regions where Azhdahak mountain is located, the highest point of the mountain is 3,597 metres. The territory of Geghama Petroglyph Area is 2600-3200 metres above sea level. Then we head to Noraduz village to discover a large number of cross stones (khachkar). Afterwards we head to Sevanavank and have overnight in a hotel near the lake.
We drive to Ukhtasar, located in Syunik Region, on the slopes of Tsghuk (3584 metres) and Ukhtasar (3169 metres) mountains. Pictures carved on the rocks dated from the 5th – 4th Centuries B.C. testify the fact that people lived here from immemorial times.The approximate quantity of rock-carvings here are thousands, but 50-100 rock-carvings are the most accessible. Afterwards we have lunch in the city of Vayk and head to discover the wonderfully settled monastery of Noravank. We then drive to Areni village to enjoy wine tasting in the local winery. Having discovered the secrets of the wine making we go back to Yerevan.
